Letter Me Later: Send E-Mails at a Future Date
There is a great tool available called LetterMeLater which allows you to queue e-mail messages to be sent for a future date.
It’s great for when a client or colleague asks me to send them an e-mail in a week on a task he or she needs to complete. Rather than writing a to-do to send the email on the appropriate date and time, get the to-do done now by queuing the message in LetterMeLater.
LetterMeLater is useful for many different tasks such as:
- Sending a message every two weeks on Tuesday reminding my client to send me the article for the next newsletter.
- Sending e-mail reminders to clients that they have requested. For example, queue a message when a client says “Remind me in a week that I need to get you that information.”
- Sending out-of-office reminders to clients. Queue a message a week before and on the start day of your vacation to remind your clients you are out of the office.
- Sending future e-mail reminders to myself and/or my virtual assistant.
How does this differ from setting a message to send at a future date in Outlook or Thunderbird?
You can set Outlook, Thunderbird and many other e-mail clients to send a message in the future. However, the message is not sent until you open your e-mail client. If you are sick, away from your office, or on vacation, the message does not get sent at that exact time.
LetterMeLater is a web service and, therefore, sends the message on time.
How does this differ from a mailing list such as AWeber, Constant Contact, etc?
E-Marketing Services such as AWeber, Constant Contact, etc. are used for marketing campaigns. They make sure you follow CAN-SPAM laws and track your success rates. They are meant for large audiences that can subscribe and unsubscribe when they want.
LetterMeLater is for sending private e-mails to your current contacts.
